Why do guns fascinate the American male? When the second amendment was written, what was the purpose? The 2nd Amendment was based partially in the English common law ( the law that the first settlers were trying to get away from) it was influenced by the English Bill of Rights of 1689 introduced by a Sir William Blackstone. The 1869 Supreme Court ruling US v. Cruikshank stated that the right to bear arms is not granted by the Constitution. Over the years the right to bear arms has been literally been a legal bouncing ball. Let's go back to 1869. This was drafted because during a tempestuous period in English politics there were two (2) major sources of conflict. The Authority of the King to govern without the consent of the parliament and the role of Catholics in a country that was becoming ever more Protestant. The Catholic James II was overthrown in the Glorious Revolution and his successors the Protestants William III and Mary II, one of the issues they resolved was the authority of the King to disarm it's subjects. That being stated the foundation of American political thought during the Revolutionary period was the concern of political corruption and government tyranny. The framers saw the personal right to bear arms as a potential check against government tyranny. What is interesting that all the framers didn't agree and we have that problem now as well

I don't have a problem with people being armed it's the phony reasons why they decide to be armed. The idea that guns will protect you is a misnomer historically that is inaccurate. Fear has played a huge part in this phenomena to have assault rifles because there are those who believe that they are at war against different thinking other than theirs and the government itself. What do they fear? any person that isn't a WASP and they have to protect themselves from the Indigenous people of this country. The Americans whose ancestors brought to this country in slave ships. America were more afraid of the Black Panthers than they ever were of the KKK. White America doesn't want to be regulated with gun control because the "bad guy" have guns. The criminals (we know what criminals they are referring to) using code words like criminal element and terrorist. The media right wing has spurred this hysteria and gun companies have flourished it's all about big business. Yet people are dying everyday for all the wrong reasons, We collectively are disturbed when a massacre with a gun happens as we should but there are gun related deaths every day. There isn't any honesty collectively in this debate singularly you hear stories where individuals truly believe they need to be armed because of what happened to them or someone close to them. The stories of innocent people being killed rings loudly but the public is deaf to the warning clanging around them. I don't know how this debate can be settled I've heard of some insane solutions but bottom line when it affects those personally like in Sandy Hook the insanity will ebb some what. The Wild West even had gun control knowing the dangers if there were no regulations to abide by. If I were to argue that I needed to be armed to protect myself and family against trigger happy police and racists would I be wrong with the climate that we see happening now. I can utilize the stand your ground law with the hatred for black Americans still in this country. I believe whites collectively hate blacks more than ISIS can ever hate us. If there is a question about that look at the racist history in this country Muhammed Ali stated it when he refused to go anf fight in another country " Why am I going to fight other brown people when my enemy resides here". (America) He took a lot of flack from a lot of people whites and some blacks especially the older ones. My point is be careful of why you want a gun because others have different reasons and the two just might collide
